Surgical Neck Lift
In some cases, neck liposuction can be performed under general anaesthesia or sedation. The procedure begins with a small amount of tumescent fluid infiltrating the neck, which contains numbing medication as well as medication to reduce any bleeding. A small liposuction cannula is then inserted through a small puncture made just below the jawline. The fat above the neck muscles is then liposuctioned.
In comparison to other areas of the body (e.g., hips, abdomen), a more conservative approach is used in the neck.
A neck that has been overly liposuctioned will not look good, and the goal of liposuction is to achieve a noticeable improvement while preserving the natural harmony of the face and neck. Following surgery, you will be given written and verbal instructions on how to care for your surgical site. It is recommended that you wear a special neck garment for 10-14 days after surgery. This is usually planned ahead of time. You will experience some discomfort, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers, and Dr. Szeto may prescribe a short course of antibiotics.
Who is a candidate for neck liposuction?
Liposuction of the neck in the submental region (just below the chin) is an excellent procedure for correcting mild to moderate fatty excess and improving neck contour. It removes fullness and can significantly improve neck contour in the right patient. Patients with excess skin may require a neck lift with or without liposuction.
Similarly, if Dr. Szeto believes that the skin’s elasticity is poor (due to advanced ageing or years of smoking), he may suggest a different treatment. Dr. Szeto will assess whether you are a good candidate for neck liposuction.
Patients who do well have good skin elasticity, which allows it to recoil and tighten after some of the underlying fat is removed. Individuals who are healthy and do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impede healing Non-smokers

What to expect
You should notice a significant improvement in your neck contour right after surgery, though some swelling and bruising is to be expected. The majority of patients are socially acceptable (minimal bruising) after a couple of weeks.
The final contour will most likely be achieved after several months of swelling has subsided and the skin has had time to fully constrict and tighten.
Risks
There are risks associated with your surgery. Please download the consent form designed by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) for a detailed list and description of the risks involved with liposuction.
Prior to your consent, the risks of surgery will be discussed. Dr. Szeto is always available to answer your questions and provide any further information you may have about this procedure.
